Tincy wincy little Natalie Portman was born in Jerusalem in 1981 and she lived there for only three years. The family then moved to Washington D.C., and then on to Connecticut when she was 7. They moved again to Long Island, New York, when she was 9 and they still live there today. These moves wer`you know her real last name isn't Portman? Portman is her stage name, taken from her grandmother's maiden name. Natalie's real last name is Hershlag.

Natalie has been a strict vegetarian since she was 8, after seeing a demonstration of laser surgey on a chicken at a medical conference with her father. She does not eat meat of any kind. She avoids gelatin and cheeses that contain rennet (a milk-curdling enzyme taken from the stomach of small farm animals like calves or sheep). Natalie often has problems with fashion designers because she refuses to wear anything that is an animal product - including leather.
