Monica's rise to fame came by chance. She started modeling to pay the bills at the University of Perugia where she was studying to be a lawyer. When the modling gigs started coming her way, suddenly a life of travel and big money looked more tempting than the books.
She quit school and moved to an international city of modeling - Milan, Italy. Monica was signed to Elite Model Management and found plenty of work. In the next year or so, she got lots of work around the globe with high fashion designers like Dolce & Gabanna.
As many models before her, Monica took her ambitions towards acting. After acting lessons and lots of dedication, she made her television debut in a film called Vita con I figli. That same year, 1990, she also appeared in the film Briganti. In 1992, Monica made her American film debut in Bram Stoker's Dracula with the role of Dracula's bride (the woman that throws herself from the castle in the beginning of the movie.)
With obvious talent and stunning good looks, the acting roles began to pour in for the Italian beauty. It was the 1996 film L'Apartement that earned Monica her status as an elite actress. Her role as Lisa earned her a Cesar nomination, which is the French equivalent of an Oscar.
Though most of Monica's work has been for French audiences, she has made many notable appearences in North American films.
