Maria Grazia Cucinotta Biography
born: July 27, 1969place of birth: Messina, Sicily
height: 5'11''
measures: 36DD-25-35
Growing up on the southern Italian island of Sicily, Maria Grazia Cucinotta was very interested in show business. During summer holidays from high school, she rode the trains north to the industrial city of Milan where she landed some modeling gigs.
After high school graduation, Maria's career as a model didn't look promising. She's got the height, the looks, and the will to work the long hours, but there was one big problem - well, two big problems: her naturally large boobs. They were too big to fit in the clothes.
Maria was forced to abandon modeling and pursued acting. She auditioned in Rome for the TV program Indietro Tutta by Renzo Arbore. She was taken for the part of the odalisque and that's how her television career began.
Maria took acting and elocution lessons to get rid of her Sicilian accent. She was taken on by an acting agency while continuing to work on television in order to earn a living. While movie auditions were almost always a failure, the ones for advertising went well and she started to shoot one advertisement after the other. For Maria, commercials proved to be an excellent way to learn the techniques, meet international directors, and make herself known abroad.
The first director who took a chance on the unknown actress was Massimo Troisi who cast Maria in the film Il Postino. The success of the movie made Maria very famous in Italy and recognized worldwide. It was then she started getting the movie offers. She chose Laureati, by Leonardo Pieraccioni, which turned out to be enormously successful, then Italiani, by Maurizio Ponzi, followed by the television movie Padre Pap for Canale 5.
North America got it's first real look at Maria at the Oscars when she presented an award. Her stunning good-looks and fabulous gown attracted a lot of attention. That year Il Postino received many nominations.
Maria Grazia Cucinotta's international fame came with her small role in James Bond: The World is Not Enough. She played the girl James Bond chases in his little boat at the beginning of the film. Unfortunately, Maria's character (dubbed "Julietta the Cigar Girl") blows herself up.
Since Bond, Maria's career has flourished and she's appeared in numerous other films. Check out her profile at the IMDB.
