Angelina Jolie was born in L.A. to Oscar winning actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. At age 11 she began acting lessons at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute.
For some reason when she was young she wanted to become a funeral director, but in her teens she began modelling professionally in London, New York, and Los Angeles. She also continued acting, which she developed a passion for, and trained some more at the USC School of Cinema.
Angelina's first break came in 1993 when she was cast in the sci-fi film Cyborg 2, which didn't even make it to the big screen. In 1995 she was cast in the film Hackers where she met her future husband British actor Jonny Lee Miller (who played Sick Boy in the hit film Trainspotting.) At their wedding, Jolie wore a black dress with Jonny's name written accross the back in blood... Ugh. The two seperated within a year and divorced in 1999.
Though unlucky with love, Angelina's acting career was soaring. It was her television roles that gained her the ultimate respect among critics. She was honored with a 1997 Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination for her role as Cornelia Wallace in the TV movie George Wallace.
After many other roles, she met Billy Bob Thornton on the set of Pushing Tin and eventually lured him away from his long-time girlfriend Laura Dern. Billy Bob and Angelina married in
In 1999, Angelina proved herself as a brilliant actress in the film Girl, Interrupted for which she would receive an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. At the Oscars, she showed up with her brother and kissed him passionatly as if they were involved in an incestuous relationship, which they later denied.
In 2000, Angelina and Billy Bob eloped. Their sexually-charged marriage was subject to much tabloid fodder (could it be because they did things like wore vials of eachother's blood around their necks?), but ended up in divorce in 2002. By this time, Angelina had adopted a Cambodian baby boy named Maddox Chivan Thornton Jolie.
Angelina's fame continued to rise with her continually blossoming career. In 2001 she stared as Lara Croft in the hugely popular film Tomb Raider - for which Angelina is proud to say she did her own stunts. Her latest films include the thriller Taking Lives (in which Angelina is damn sexy, by the way) and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
